Orlando International Airport’s (MCO) application to offer passenger air service between the United States and Cuba has been approved. Executive Director Phil Brown of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority was notified today by Assistant Commissioner Kevin McAleenan of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office.

This announcement follows the “Airports of Entry or Departure for Flights to and from Cuba” rule published in the federal register on January 28, 2011. This announcement allows additional U.S. airports to request approval to process authorized flights between the United States and Cuba. MCO applied in 2011 for government permission for these operations.

“Orlando International Airport can now provide more convenient access to Cuba for Cubanborn residents in Central Florida. This further positions Orlando International Airport for future service development opportunities”, says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the
Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
